Warhammer
Warhammer is a high fantasy world of dark magic and powerful gods, populated by mighty heroes and foul monsters. Proud men stand shoulder-to-shoulder with noble Elves and grim Dwarfs against the unending attacks of their countless enemies. Vile rat-like Skaven crawl beneath every city, the restless dead stir in their graves, and daemons lead the mutated hordes of the Chaos Gods into war. This is the Warhammer World, a realm of grim adventure, where only the strongest survive.
Building a Warhammer armyThere are many nations and armies in the Warhammer world. Each of these fights in a different way: some races are masters of magic, others rely on their natural strength, yet others recruit ferocious monsters. Even two armies of the same race can be quite different because there are many kinds of warriors, wizards, war machines and monsters to choose from. The Warhammer rulebook is supplemented by individual books outlining the background history for each of the individual races, along with army lists, special weapons, magical items and spells.
Armies of the Warhammer WorldThe Empire is the most powerful nation of Men in the Old World. Protected by fine steel armour and the blessing of their gods, and supported by the cannon of the Empire’s Gunnery school and proud Orders of Templar Knights, the Empire army marching to war is a splendid sight.
A proud and noble race, the High Elves have refined their martial skills and magical prowess over the centuries. They have watched empires rise and fall and ferociously repel all who seek to conquer their homeland, fabled Ulthuan.
Bitter and defiant, the Dwarfs of the World’s Edge Mountains are the last survivors of a prosperous kingdom who seldom venture far from their mountain keeps, preferring the surroundings of their ancestral strongholds and the memory of their former glories.
Deep within the steaming jungles of the south, the mighty temple-cities of the Lizardmen rise amid ancient trees and cloying swamps. At the heart of the Lizardman armies are the powerful Saurus, hulking reptilian warriors spawned solely for the purpose of war.
The knights of feudal Bretonnia are famed across the Old World, known as much for their chivalry and honour as for their devastating charges.
The Wood Elves dwell in the enchanted forest of Athel Loren, having tamed the wild beasts and befriended the strange creatures of that realm.
Far to the east of the Old World lie the savage Ogre Kingdoms. A single Ogre has enough brute strength to destroy a farmstead or village, whereas the armies that march west from the Ogre homelands are powerful enough to destroy empires.
In the cold wastes of the north, the followers of the gods of Chaos gather in their thousands. Hosts of barbaric marauders and armour-clad warriors, the Hordes of Chaos, pour forth from the bleak wastelands to wage war against the soft-bellied wastrels who inhabit the rich lands of the south.
The Tomb Kings of Nehekhara have commanded their Undead legions for thousands of years, protecting their ancient pyramids from thieves and their domains from the impudent young races of the world.
Spiteful and hate-filled, the Dark Elves are raiders who drag unfortunate wretches from across the world back to their evil home: Naggaroth, the Land of Chill.
Malevolent Skaven, horrific mutant rat-men, lurk in the sewers and tunnels beneath every city. Guided by the prophets of their dark god, they devise terrifying weapons in their quest to overthrow the world.
The Vampire Counts are immortal rulers of the evil Undead. When they go to war, entire graveyards give up their dead as the spirits of the fallen take up arms to fight once more.
The dark forests of the Warhammer world are infested with nightmarish, misshapen beasts. These Beasts of Chaos surge from the wild places to burn and destroy all before them.
