Warhammer 40,000

Warhammer 40,000 is a game of strategy and skill set in the far distant future. The 41st millennium is a dark, forbidding place, ravaged by thousands of years of conflict. Across this gothic universe armies struggle for victory in a battle to the death.

Foremost among Humanity’s defenders are the fearless Space Marines: genetically engineered super-warriors who are armed with the best weapons available. Supporting them are the vast armies of the Emperor, made up of legions of men and the tanks of the Imperial Guard. Against these loyal troops are ranged the alien armies of the Tau, savage Orks, enigmatic Eldar and unfathomable Tyranids. And always, lurking in the shadows, is the unholy taint of Chaos: once-loyal Space Marines now turned traitor and in the service of the unspeakable Daemon Lords of Chaos.

Building a Warhammer 40,000 army

The Warhammer 40,000 rulebook is supplemented by individual Codex books outlining the background history for each of the individual races, along with army lists and special weapons. These troops can be supported and backed up by a vast range of military hardware. Gigantic starships, huge rumbling tanks, mechanical war machines and aircraft all help the tabletop commander to steer his army to victory.

Armies of the 41st Millennium

The Space Marines are humanity’s elite, superhuman soldiers protected by the mightiest weapons and armour in the galaxy. For their unswerving devotion to the Emperor and the destruction they bring to His enemies they are known as the Angels of Death.

Ten thousand years ago, half the Space Marine Legions betrayed their oaths to the Emperor and turned to the dark Gods of Chaos. These same Chaos Space Marines live on in the Eye of Terror, protected by their daemonic masters, launching raids upon the hated Imperium.

The Eldar are an ancient race whose civilisation once spanned the galaxy. Now they battle the younger races of the universe for their very survival, guided by their mystic seers and defended by dedicated Aspect Warriors.

The Necrons have awakened from their sixty million-year dormancy to plague the living once more. Although the Imperium of Mankind has only recently acknowledged the Necrons’ reappearance, their monstrous gods feasted upon colossal stars before the planets themselves were born.

The Tyranids are an utterly alien horror from a distant galaxy, driven by the implacable will of the Hive Mind. Swarms of bio-organisms strip entire planets bare in their endless hunger.

The Emperor’s Inquisition commands numerous diverse forces, specially trained to counter foes whom the numbers of the Imperial Guard and even the training of the Space Marines cannot overcome. The Daemonhunters of the Grey Knights Space Marine Chapter, the witchhunting Sisters of Battle and the Kill-Teams of the Ordo Xenos all fight their own wars against the enemies of Mankind – the daemon, the mutant and the alien.

The Imperial Guard is Mankind’s primary and most numerous defence, numbering billions upon billions of soldiers from all the worlds of the Imperium. The Guard fights at every level, from platoons assigned to defend a small frontier colony to massive army groups fighting wars that stretch across dozens of star systems.

Young and dynamic, the Tau seek to bring enlightenment to those who will join them. Unfettered by Mankind’s superstitions and fear of technology, its armed forces are superbly equipped with weapons of immense power and battlesuits that can withstand the fiercest attacks.

Striking without warning, the piratical Dark Eldar ravage colonies and even entire planets in their search for fresh prey. It is rumoured that being captured by these twisted aliens is a fate worse than death as they feed upon the very souls of their victims.

Orks are the most widespread and warlike race of aliens in the bloodstained galaxy of the 41st millennium. Should they ever organize and unify, they would quickly overwhelm and crush all opposition.
